Clipper ship Sovereign of the Seas catches fire and is destroyed at Circular Quay in 1861, with a loss of some 1600 tons of cargo.
This ship was one of the most famous and fastest of her time, setting a record of taking just 13 days to cross the Atlantic from New York to Liverpool with an unmatched average speed of 22 knots.
