Closed for renovations until November 2025.
Sydney’s most iconic Irish pub, The Mercantile Hotel, is temporarily closed for renovations until November 2025, but the spirit of “The Merc” is alive and well just 25 metres away at 4 Doors Down.
While the beloved heritage building receives well-earned upgrades, including a brand-new rooftop bar, visitors can still enjoy all their favourite Irish hospitality and comfort food nearby. 4 Doors Down, open from 1 November, serves up all the classics: creamy pints of Guinness, Shamrock pies, Irish stew, and other much-loved pub fare.
For over a century, The Mercantile has been a cornerstone of The Rocks. Located just moments from the Sydney Opera House, Harbour Bridge and Circular Quay, it has earned its title as Australia’s best Irish pub multiple times. Guests flock here for the warm hospitality, traditional live Irish music, classic Aussie rock, and unbeatable atmosphere.
Though the hotel rooms upstairs at The Mercantile are unavailable during the renovation, the good times continue at 4 Doors Down, with the same menu, music, and magic that made The Mercantile famous.
Accessibility: Entry is available via the side entrance with internal access and assistance as required.
Whether you're a local, a regular, or a tourist seeking a true Irish-Australian experience in Sydney, make your way to 4 Doors Down, where The Merc lives on until its grand return in 2025.
