Across its history, the hotel has been a hospital and a hostel for sailors and The Russell’s most well-known ghost is an unnamed sailor who was murdered by a woman. It happened in room number 8, and his spirit has lingered there ever since, with hotel staff claiming to have heard ghostly footsteps treading the creaky floors during the night.
