Autism-friendly gallery opening: Adults and friends
Experience artworks in Ultra Unreal and MCA Collection: Perspectives on place in a fun and relaxed environment while the museum is closed to the general public.
Join MCA Artist Educators and Aspect volunteers for creative activities in the galleries, and head to the studios to get hands-on with some artmaking. You can join a structured activity created by our team or choose your own experience and set your own pace.
This program has been tailored for adults with hidden disabilities and their friends and families to enjoy together.
Some of the adaptions that will be available at the event are:
- Sensory adjustments in the gallery such as lowered sound volumes and modified lighting
- Relaxed pace and flexible arrival times
- Visual Story (click here to view the event Visual Story)
- Artworks that are carefully chosen for participant sensory needs
- Staff who are trained in disability confidence
- Quiet Area

Wearing a Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyard discreetly indicates to people around you, including trained staff, that you may need additional support, time or understanding. The scheme allows people to choose to be visible when they want to be.
