Jumaadi’s work is infused with myths, experiences of love and displacement, botanical, maritime and trade histories. This work draws on the artist’s practice that ranges from contemporary shadow puppet performances to intricately carved buffalo hide.
Living on Borogegal and Cammeraigal land and Yogyakarta, Indonesian-Australian artist Jumaadi’s practice spans painting, sculpture, installation and performance. He is a current studio resident at Artspace and has exhibited extensively across Australia and represented Australia at the 13th Gwangju Biennale and the Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art. His works are held in major Australian collections including the National Gallery of Australia, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, and Art Gallery of New South Wales.
