February

Get ready for a cinematic celebration at Laneway Cinema this February, where we're rolling out the red carpet for a dazzling four weeks of world movies and queer films! From heartwarming classics to thought-provoking dramas, there's plenty to delight film lovers of all stripes.

Queer Screen is the home of the Mardi Gras Film Festival and we're excited to share that Laneway Cinema is screening as part of the 2025 festival on Wednesdays 19 and 26 February.

In 1993, a group of queer Sydney filmmakers, students, and supporters approached Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras to establish an independent organisation whose focus would be queer film and screen culture. This organisation was Queer Screen. Their central aim was to reclaim Sydney’s LGBTIQ film festival as owned and operated by the community.  Today, Queer Screen's Mardi Gras Film Festival is in its 32nd edition.

In February, we're also proudly supporting Minus 18, a charity that is dedicated to improving the lives of LGBTQIA+ youth. All proceeds from popcorn purchases at Laneway Cinema will be donated to this Australian charity.

Wednesday 26 February

Robin Williams, Nathan Lane, Gene Hackman, Dianne Wiest, Hank Azaria, Calista Flockhart and Christine Baranski star in the hilarious comedy classic about a cabaret owner and his drag queen partner who agree to put up a false straight front so that their son can introduce them to his fiancée's right-wing, conservative parents.

Plus, join us from 6.30pm for a screening of the short film Say Uncle. Say Uncle tells the story of estranged friends Jake and Drew, who reunite because Drew is hoping Jake might offer up some of his sperm for a baby.
